Qatar extracts 430 million cubic meters of gas every day from the South Pars oil and gas field, nearly twice as much as Iran which shares the Persian Gulf gas and oil field with its neighbor.

Iran is extracting about 230 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas from South Pars, Pana news agency reports.

Iran is also outpaced by its neighbors with which its shares onshore oil fields because larger sections of the fields fall to its territory, National Iranian Oil Company's (NIOC) Corporate Planning Manager Abdol-Mohammad Delparish said.

By the end of its Fifth Five-Year Socio Economic Development Plan (2011-2015), Iran's oil production from its joint fields is to reach 850,000 barrels a day.

Iran and Qatar share the 9,700 square kilometer South Pars gas and oil field-lay.
