The head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and the European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton spoke over phone last night.

Ashton, who leads the P5+1 negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme, and Jalili spoke about their upcoming Moscow meeting, Mehr news agency reports.

Mehr did not report further information about Jalili and Ashton's last night talks, but Press TV reported today, Iune 12 that as it learned that the P5+1 are ready to hold talks on the Islamic Republic's five-point proposal, which were offered during Baghdad meeting.

Iran and the 5+1 group (Great Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) held three sessions of talks in Baghdad on May 23-24 after an earlier round of negotiations in the Turkish city of Istanbul in mid-April.

The two sides have also agreed to hold another round of talks in Moscow on June 18-19.

The Islamic Republic has persistently stressed that its nuclear programme is for civilian purposes, but IAEA and some Western powers suspect Iran is trying to cover up nuclear tests at Iran's Parchin Military Complex.

The developments come amid mounting impatience from nations including the United States and Israel over Iran's perceived stalling to allow full inspections and oversight of its nuclear programme.
