The United Nations (UN) Envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, met with Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador in Damascus Mohammad Reza Rauf Sheibani and discussed the ways for resolving the Syrian crisis with him, IRNA reported.

Iranian envoy elaborated on IR Iran's views regarding the reasons for failure of a plan by former UN and Arab League's special envoy in Syrian crisis, Kofi Annan.

Emphasizing on the fact that from IR Iran's point of view the only option left for resolving the Syrian crisis is through diplomacy, Sheibani noted that any political effort should reinforce such attitude.

The Iranian ambassador pointed out that IR Iran is ready to help Brahimi in his new mission in Syria.

UN Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi for his part underlined the role, status and importance of IR Iran in the efforts aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis.

Brahimi arrived in Damascus on Thursday for the first time as UN's special envoy to Syria.
