Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has this morning arrived in Tehran for holding talks with senior Iranian officials, Fars reported.
Bogdanov arrived in Tehran upon an invitation of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The Russian special presidential representative on the Middle East will discuss regional developments, particularly those pertaining to Syria, with top Iranian officials.
Bogdanov is also scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi within his visit.
Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian paid a visit to Moscow in August and held discussions with his Russian counterpart on regional developments.
Iran and Russia share the same views on the ongoing unrest in Syria as both countries have repeatedly emphasized on the necessity to settle the Arab nation's crisis through diplomatic channels.
In a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in late September, the two sides said the unrest in Syria should be resolved within the framework of a Syria-Syria plan and in a peaceful way.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.
