Head of Iran's social security organization arrested
Official information website of Tehran Prosecutor Office announced minutes after beginning of Tuesday that head of Iran's social security organization Saeed Mortazavi has been arrested, IRNA reported.
The short news on Mortazaviˈs arrest on the Presecutor Office website had no further details.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended Majlis session here Sunday to defend Labor, and Social Welfare Minister Abdolreza Sheikholeslami, mainly for appointment of Mortazavi, first as the head, and later as the care-taker of the Socail Security Organizaiton.
Ahmadinejad was accompanied by First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi, Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Lotfollah Forouzandeh, Minister of Science, Research and Technology Kamran Daneshjoo, Agriculture Minister Sadeq Khalilian, Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad-Reza Mir-Tajeddini and Sheikholeslami.
Upon his arrival, the Iranian President was warmly welcomed by lawmakers.
During the Majlis open session, a number of MPs talked in support and against Sheikholeslamiˈs performance for two hours and then the minister defended himself.
President Ahmadinejad also defended Sheikholeslamiˈs performance during his tenure in Labor, and Social Welfare Ministry.
Several lawmakers signed a petition to impeach the minister after former Tehran prosecutor Saˈeid Mortazavi was appointed as the caretaker of the Social Security Organization.
Sheiholeslami did not get the confidence vote of the Islamic Parliament at the session and was the first casualty of the Mortazavi case.
