Head of Iran's social security organization Saeed Mortazavi was released from prison early Wednesday, after explanations and interrogations, Fars agency reported.

Mortazavi has been arrested yesterday on charges of illegal possession of government property, according informed sources.

Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed his regret over the arrest of Mortazavi, and said he will personally handle the issue.

This is not the first time Mortazavi ended up behind bars - a parliamentary report issued on January 10, 2010 blamed Mortazavi for sending 147 inmates, charged with involvement in the political unrest that occurred after the Iranian presidential election of June 2009, to the substandard Kahrizak detention center on July 9, 2009.

In 2011, Tehran's Military Court dismissed Mortazavi after a series of tragic incidents in the Kahrizak Prison.
