Iranian President calls for high turnout in upcoming election

IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged the Iranian nation to actively take part in the country's next presidential election slated for June, IRNA reported.

He made the remarks addressing a large crowd of people in the Southwestern province of Khuzestan.

'A 50-million-strong turnout in the country's upcoming presidential election will break the enemy's back,' President Ahmadinejad said on Sunday.

He noted that such turnout will undoubtedly change the domestic and international conditions in favor of the Iranian nation.

In September, the Iranian interior ministry announced that the country will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
