Iran needs to speed up its economy so it can overcome the effect of sanctions, Iran's presidential hopeful Mohsen Rezaei said, ISNA reported.

Rezaei said that he has serious plans regarding country's economy. He went on to note that if elected to office, he will modernize Iran's industries, particularly the agricultural sector.

Iran's ageing industrial infrastructures have exposed it to outside pressures and are to blame for numerous problems like inflation and unemployment, he explained.

Iran must revamp its foreign policy to enable it to confront sanctions more effectively, Rezaei added.

It has been announced that Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
