A senior Iranian lawmaker says the country has formed a team comprising senior officials to monitor nuclear negotiations with six world powers, PressTV reported.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States - plus Germany sealed an interim agreement in Geneva on November 24 to lay the groundwork for the full resolution of the decade-old dispute with Tehran over its nuclear energy program.
Under the Geneva deal, the six countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. Iran has agreed not to bring new centrifuges into operation for six months as part of the deal.
"Given the results gained in the first stage of the Geneva agreement, it was decided that two more individuals join the team of officials (who supervise the nuclear negotiators)" to specify and clarify details for the negotiating team, said Esmail Kowsari who sits on the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Majlis.
Kowsari said the initiative was taken since the negotiations were not as beneficial to Iran as expected.
From now on, he said, the Iranian negotiating team will coordinate its activities, including those related to enrichment issues, with the team of supervisors.
On Monday, experts from Iran and the Sextet launched a new round of talks meant to devise a mechanism to put into force the Geneva deal.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that the talks continued through Tuesday morning "with relatively good progress," adding that certain issues remain to be resolved at the "political level."
Following the conclusion of the expert-level talks, said the diplomat, Iranian experts would submit their reports to "political deputies and directors since certain issues still remain that should be resolved at the political level."
