By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The US has frozen the accounts of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, and this step has created problems for humanitarian aid from other countries for Iran’s flood-hit citizens, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said, Trend reports via IRNA.

He said that no foreign citizens of Iranians living abroad can help the victims of the flood in Iran.

He added that this move contradicts the allegations by the US that the sanctions aren’t directed against the Iranian people.

“In emergency cases, not all banking systems are usually closed, and conditions are created for the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Society to provide humanitarian aid to the people,” he said.

He noted that the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Society have recently announced that they cannot provide assistance to the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

He added that no foreign assistance has been received so far, and there is no way for it to reach Iran.

“International circles should take urgent steps in this direction,” he said. “In particular, there is shortage of some equipment, such as helicopters.”
