TEHRAN, Iran, Sep. 21
Trend:
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will reach an effective position by accepting Iran as a permanent member, a former spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry told Trend in an interview.
Ramin Mehmanparast has indicated that Iran pursued full membership in the SCO for 17 years and the process was the result of years of persistence.
He noted that Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes big powers such as China, Russia, and India that have large populations and members of the following organization are the biggest oil and gas producers and consumers that shows the SCO has a big capacity to be effective in the world and Iran's permanent membership is important.
"Iran's membership in the SCO is a good opportunity that requires planning and persistence to fully use the opportunity," he added.
Mehmanparast explained that the reason for accepting Iran's membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is that other members felt that membership of a new country could increase the capacity of the SCO.
Iran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was approved during the Iranian President's visit to Tajikistan.
