BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. The export of non-oil products from northern Iran's Gilan province increased by 3.5 percent in value and 2.7 percent in weight in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). Compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), Chairman of the Industrial, Mining, and Trade Organization of Iran's Gilan Province, Teymour Pour Heydari said, Trend reports.
According to Pour Heydari, Iran's Gilan province exported 1.12 million tons of non-oil items valued at $676 million last year.
He noted that last year, Gilan Province exported 1.09 million tons of items worth $653 million.
The official also stated that $297 million in agricultural products, $228 million in industrial items, $93 million in mining products, and $58 million in petrochemical products were exported last year.
Pour Heydari said that Anzali Port, Caspian Free Trade Zone, Astara border terminal, and Rasht airport in Gilan province are export points for non-oil items.
He stated that because Iran's Gilan province is positioned along the international North-South corridor, non-oil exports and product transit through the region are projected to rise greatly in the near future.
To note, based on the intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia, Iran, and India on September 12, 2000, the foundation of the North-South transport corridor was laid. In general, several countries have ratified the said agreement. (Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Bulgaria, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Sultanate of Oman, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Türkiye, Ukraine). The purpose of creating the corridor is to reduce the time of delivery of goods coming from India to Russia, as well as to Northern and Western Europe (delivery time on the current route is more than 6 weeks; it is expected to be 3 weeks via "North-South").
The North-South Corridor has three directions on the territory of Iran. The eastern direction is Turkmenistan and Central Asian countries; the middle direction is Russia and other countries across the Caspian Sea; and the western direction is Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, and Eastern European countries.
