BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 14. The Shourijeh natural underground storage facility in Iran will be developed through the National Development Fund's investment of $270 million, a representative of Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company Saeid Rajabzadeh said, Trend reports.
According to him, in this regard, a MoU has been signed between the National Development Fund and Iran's Mapna Company.
Rajabzadeh stated that although the work was started as part of the plan to develop the underground gas storage facility in Shourijeh, insufficient funds have not been spent. If the funds had been made available on time, the physical development work of this storage facility could have been 85 percent completed.
The official added that the development plan for the Shourijeh underground gas storage facility includes drilling 28 new wells at the Khangiran gas field and the Shourijeh reservoir. To date, nine wells have been drilled and improved at the Shourijeh reservoir.
To note, the operational operations of Phase 2 of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility started on March 31, 2022. These operations are carried out following the agreement signed last year between the Iranian gas production and engineering company and Mapna Group. According to the contract, the operational works will be completed within 3 years, and phase 2 will be utilized for 20 years. The value of the contract is $2.2 billion. Under the contract, 28 wells will be drilled, a gas gathering center will be built, and compressors and other equipment will be installed. With the commissioning of Phase 2, the capacity of this underground storage facility will increase to 20 million cubic meters of gas daily for 8 months and 40 million cubic meters of gas for 4 months.
