BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. A total of 200,000 tons of pistachios were grown in Iran last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), a representative of Iran's National Pistachio Association Jalil Karbakhsh Ravari said, Trend reports.

According to him, pistachios are grown in 27 of Iran's 31 provinces. The southeastern province of Kirman accounts for 27 percent of the pistachios grown in the country.

Karbakhsh Ravari stated that due to climate change, ongoing drought, and declining water quality, the country's pistachio cultivation is expected to decline in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025).

The official noted that 120,000 tons of pistachios worth $900 million–$1 billion were exported from Iran last year.

Additionally, the total area of pistachio orchards in Iran is 550,000 hectares.

However, 225,000 tons of pistachios were grown in Iran during the previous Iranian year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).

To note, pistachios are grown mainly in the Iranian provinces of Kerman, Razavi Khorasan, Yazd, Pars, South Khorasan, Semnan, Central, and Qom.

Iran grows, on average, more than 130 million tons of agricultural products per year.
