Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 9

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Swiss companies can invest in Iran's pharmaceutical and food industries.
Sharif Nezam-Mafi, Vice Chairman of Iran-Switzerland Joint Chamber of Commerce, said the economy of Switzerland and the economy of Iran are complementary, meaning that Swiss products are needed in the Iranian market and vice versa, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Feb. 9.

Over the past one and a half years, economic transactions between Iran and Switzerland have been facilitated, but they have not been normalized yet, he said. There are still many problems hindering the bilateral trade, he noted.

Official figures show that Switzerland's exports to Iran totaled nearly $1.9 billion in the ten-month period ending on January 31, 2014.

According to official figures released by the Iran Customs Administration, Switzerland exported as much as 2.6 million metric tons of commodities to Iran during the ten-month time frame, topping the list of European exporters to Iran.
