Iran produces over 356,000 cars in four months

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iranian carmakers produced 356,239 cars in the first four months of the current Iranian fiscal year, which began on March 21.

The figure showed an 8.4 percent rise compared to the same period in the past year, Iran's Mehr news agency reported August 4.

During the 4-month period, 329,055 passenger cars were produced, a 17.4 percent rise year on year.

Also, 22,905 pick-up vans, 3,874 trucks, 242 buses, and 163 minibuses were manufactured.

More than 1.13 million cars were produced in Iran in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

Sedan cars output stood at 958,335 in the mentioned period, a 53 percent rise year on year.

Iran also produced 150,929 pickup trucks, 20,239 trucks, 482 buses, and 179 minibuses in the 12-month period.

Iran produced 989,110 cars in 2012, which made the country Asia's eighth largest car manufacturer. Iran also stood at the world's 18th place in the mentioned year.

The Islamic Republic's automobile output faced a 40 percent decrease in 2012 due to the sanctions. The country was Asia's fifth largest car manufacturer in 2011, with a total output of 1,648,505.
