By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A European company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran 's Sahfa Mahvareh Company to design and manufacture a remote sensing satellite with one meter resolution in Iran.
The MOU was signed during the MAKS 2015 international aviation expo in Moscow, Iran's Fars news agency reported on September 7.
Details about the European company have not been revealed.
Remote sensing data is used in oceanography, aerosols, biomass content analysis, moisture analysis, thermal mapping, and mineral deposit identification.
Based on the MOU, the satellite will be manufactured jointly and will be handed over to the Iranian company after being put into orbit.
The project is to be implemented over the course of two years.
Iranian Minister of Communication Mahmoud Vaezi said on August 18 that the country has plans to build two new satellites.
A telecommunication satellite is going to be ready in three years while another remote-sensing satellite is also on the agenda, he said.
Vaezi further said international agreements would be made to accomplish satellite missions that have remained from the past.
