Iran’s steel output increases

Some 1.25 million tons of crude steel were produced in Iran in Aug. 2015, the World Steel Association said in its latest monthly report Sept. 21.

The figure indicates a fall by 6.2 percent compared to the same month of 2014.

About 10.89 million tons of crude steel was produced in Iran in the first eight months of 2015, 2.4 percent more year-on-year.

Iran was the world's 14th biggest producer of steel in the 8-month period. The country also stood at the first place among the Middle East countries.

World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 1.07 billion tons in the eight months, a 2.3 percent decrease compared to the same months of 2014.

The 65 countries included in the World Steel Association statistics accounted for approximately 98 percent of total world crude steel production in 2014.

China was the biggest crude steel producer in the world in the first eight months of 2015 with about 540.6 million tons of production, followed by Japan (70.24 million tons), India (60.55 million tons), the US (54 million tons), Russia (47.8 million tons) and South Korea (46.4 million tons).

World crude steel production was 132.34 million ton in August 2015, a three percent decrease compared to August 2014.

The Islamic republic produced 16.331 million metric tons of crude steel in 2014.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.

The world's total crude steel output in 2014 was around 1.636 billion metric tons, which is 1.1 percent more than 2013.
