Iran’s iron ore output increases by 11%

Iran’s major state-run iron ore producing companies have produced about 2.414 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the second month of current Iranian fiscal year (April 20-May 20).

The figure indicates an 11-percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported June 20.

Chadormalou ranked first among the companies producing 883,987 tons of iron ore concentrate followed by Gol Gohar with 812,458 tons of production.

Markazi (319,320 tons), Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (291,938 tons), and Sangan (106, 417 tons) were other leading state-run iron ore producers.

The aforementioned companies (excluding Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company, Chadormalou and Gol Gohar) plus Jalalabad, Mishdavan and the Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Complex produced 617,253 tons of iron ore granule in total, during the one-month period, 15 percent less year on year.

The companies’ iron ore concentrate output stood at 4.242 million tons in the first two month of current fiscal year(started March 20), indicating a fall by one percent year-on-year.

The state-run companies also produced 1.104 million tons of iron ore granule in the two-month period, 17 percent less compared to the same period of preceding year.

The report does not include the volume of produced iron ore by private sector companies, which in total produce 14 million tons of iron ore annually.

Iran’s iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
