Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME) offers about 8,000 tons of sugar on a daily basis, an Iranian trade official said.

Hassan Abbasi-Maroufan , a deputy for commercial affairs at Iran's Governmental Trading Corporation (GTC), has said that the GTC offered 105,000 tons of sugar at the IME over the past month, Tasnim news agency reported.

At least 65 percent of the total amount was traded at the IME, he added.

While Iranians consume around 2.16 million tons of sugar per year, the country produced about 1.5 million tons of sugar over the last Iranian calendar year that ended March 20.

In order to meet the demands, Iran still needs to import 640,000 tons of sugar per year.
