Iran and Azerbaijan increased the electricity swap by 2.5 times, Iran’s Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian told Trend.

Chitchian said a new 330-kilowatt power line, with a length of 52 kilometers, has been commissioned between Iran and Azerbaijan.

“Thus, Iran and Azerbaijan increased the electricity swap from 200 megawatts to 500 megawatts,” noted the minister.

Azerbaijan and Iran have great potential for cooperation in power industry, added Chitchian.

He also said that over the past five years, Iran increased electricity output by 26,500 megawatts by investing $30 billion.

Currently, Iran’s electricity output potential is about 75,000 megawatts. This figure will be 125,000 megawatts in 2025, according to the minister.

Generation capacity of Azerbaijan’s electricity system is 7,160 megawatts that allows producing about 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year. This also allows the country export 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity a year.
