Iranian energy ministry’s power supply income hits $2.1B

Iranian Energy Ministry’s income from supplying power over the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 20) has reached $2.1 billion (70 trillion rials).

Alireza Daemi, a deputy energy minister, has said that the ministry’s annual income from supplying power over the last several years stood at $2.8 billion (90 trillion rials converted to US dollar according to official rate on Nov. 28), Fars news agency reported.

According to the official, the country annually produces 270 billion kw/h of energy.

He further touched upon the ministry’s outstanding debts, saying Iranian Energy Ministry has settled one third of its outstanding debts over the first eight months of the current Iranian year.

Over the first eight months of the current year, the ministry has paid off about $3.1 billon (100 trillion rials) in debt and it still needs to clear $6.2 billion (200 trillion rials).

Private contractors and banks form the most important part of the creditors of the ministry.
