The Iranian Ministry of Defense has plans to commercially produce marine propulsion engines with 400 to 500 horsepower.

The announcement was made by Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan during Iran’s First Marine Propulsion Conference in Tehran, IRIB news agency reported February 14.

The minister, underlining that the country is currently producing 200-horsepower engines for watercraft, said the industry will save Iran currency, help employment, and improve related industries.

The engine, already being built, can provide a speed of 41 knots (74 kilometers per hour) for the watercraft it is installed on, the minister said.
