Iran has put pistachio on its mercantile market and from now on the product can be bought and sold online on Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME). The Iranian pistachio enjoys world renown.
The occasion was celebrated at the IME with Economy Minister Ali Tayyebnia, who said it is a pioneer that will help Iran’s agricultural products find their way to international markets, IRIB news agency reported March 6.
Putting pistachio on the IME will not only help Iran’s nonoil exports, it will also improve the quality of Iran’s pistachio and other agricultural products in that the products should be able to compete international rivals, the minister underlined.
Iran exported 40,000 tons of pistachio, worth $381.65 million during the first six months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 21, 2016).
The figure showed a 20 percent increase in terms of value and 22 percent rise in terms of volume respectively compared to the same period of last year, Iran's Agriculture ministry reported Oct. 25.
Iran exported 130,000 tons of pistachio, worth $1.2 billion to 70 countries during the last fiscal year (ended March 20), meanwhile the country’s total output stood at 261,000 tons, according to the report.
