Iran imported $43.684 billion worth of goods during the last fiscal year (ended on March 20, 2017), which indicates a 5.2 percent increase, compared to the previous year.
Iran imported some 33.399 million tons of goods during that period which is 5 percent less compared to March 20, 2015-March 20, 2016, according to the latest statistics released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran May 1.
Cars worth $1.957 billion topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 4.5 percent share from the country's total imports' value. Iran's car imports indicate a rise by 59 percent year on year.
The Islamic Republic also imported $1.913 billion worth of car parts in the period. Car parts ranked second among Iran’s imported goods with 4.4 percent share from the country's total imports' value.
Iran's car part imports indicated a rise by 48 percent in terms of value year-on-year.
Iranian carmakers also manufactured more than 1.350 million vehicles over the last fiscal year, indicating a 37 percent growth year-on-year.
Multinational companies have demonstrated a surge in interest in investment in Iran’s car sector following the implementation of the nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and the world major powers in January 2016.
