Iran’s car output increases by 9.8%

Over 233,100 cars were produced in Iran during the first 2.5 months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-June 5), spokesperson of Iran's Automotive Policymaking Council, Amir Hossein Qanati, said.

The figure indicates a rise by 9.8 percent as compared to the same period of the preceding year, Qanati said, the Iranian Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry reported June 8.

Passenger cars (including sedans and SUVs) accounted for 220,716 of the output with a production growth rate of 13.2 percent, he added.

Iranian car makers also produced 1,883 trucks in the period, Qanati said, adding that the country’s bus and minibus output increased by 127.2 percent to stand at 409 vehicles.

Iranian car manufacturers also produced 10,167 pick-ups during the current fiscal year, he said.

Over 1.350 million cars were produced in Iran in the last Iranian fiscal year (ended March 20).

Iran’s car output reached 982,337 units in 2015, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). The figure indicated a 9.9-percent fall compared to the preceding year.

Iran was the world’s 20th biggest car manufacturer by end of 2015, while the country stood at the 18th place in the first half of 2015.

The 2014 production statistics by the OICA indicates that Iran’s car production increased by 46.7 percent and stood at 1.1 million cars.
