Iran’s South Pars gas output increases by 15%

Iran's South Pars gas field produced 54.99 billion cubic meters of sweet gas in the first 5 months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Aug. 21), Masoud Hassani, Managing Director of South Pars Gas Complex (SPGC), said.

The figure indicates a rise by 16 percent year-on-year, Hassani said, Fars news agency reported Sept. 1.

Iran extracted 68 billion cubic meters of the gas from the field in the 5-month period, 15 percent more compared to the same period of preceding year, he added.

The official added that in the said time span, more than 86.67 million barrels of gas condensate were also produced in the complex (13 percent growth).

He further said that the complex’s gas condensate export amounted to 91 million barrels in the first five month of current fiscal year, 18 percent more year on year.

Over 219,328 tons of sulphur, 1.132 million tons of ethane(28 percent growth), 590,000 tons of propane and 350,000 tons of butane were also produced in South Pars Gas Complex in the period, Hassani added.

South Pars gas field with 14 trillion cubic meters of reserves on the Iranian side is jointly owned with Qatar.

Iran divided its side of the field to 24 phases and its final output capacity is expected to be above 800 mcm/d after launching all phases.
