Iran increases copper output

Concentrate output of Iran’s copper producers registered a slight increase during the current fiscal year, started March 2017.

The country’s copper concentrate output amounted to 1.05 million tons in the first 11 months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Feb. 20).

The figure indicates an increase by 7 percent as compared to the same period of the preceding year, according to the data of Iran’s state-run Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

The country also produced 140,368 tons of cathode copper in the 11-month period, 19 percent less year-on-year.

The Islamic Republic’s copper concentrate production reached 93,717 tons in the last Iranian calendar month (Jan. 20-Feb. 20), 8 percent more compared to the same month of the preceding year.

Meanwhile the cathode copper output witnessed a 2-percent increase to 15,989 tons in the last calendar month.

Iran’s overall copper concentrate output reached 1.046 million tons during the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2017).

Iran produced 192,650 tons of copper cathode and 228,571 tons of copper anode during the last fiscal year.

The country’s copper ore output stood at 140.462 million tons during the last fiscal year.

Iran possesses 22 million of copper reserve, equal to 1.3 percent of the world’s proven copper reserves, according to the report.

At present, six copper mines are operating in the country.
