By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

In case of an earthquake in Tehran, 2 million people will be directly affected, said Ismail Najjar, head of Iran National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO), Fars News Agency reported.

He said that the city is only 20 percent ready for an earthquake and about eight million people of Tehran’s 10 million population will be indirectly affected by an earthquake.

"To accommodate so many people, there is a need for 3-4 places like Tehran, because it is possible to temporarily accommodate only 1-3 million residents in Tehran," Najjar noted.

He mentioned the importance of establishing alternative water reservoirs for supplying Tehran with water.

"That is because water supply system in Tehran will stop functioning in case of an earthquake," Najjar added.
