About 9,000 tons of tea have been exported from Iran since the beginning of the Iranian year (started March 21), Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said in an exclusive interview with IRNA.
He said this year tea exports decreased in comparison with the same period last year, adding that 12,000 tons of tea were exported during the same period last year.
He noted that Iran’s tea was exported mainly to Afghanistan, Iraq and the Caspian states.
Though depending on the quality, Iran’s tea is sold at plants for $1.4, $2.8 and $4.2 per kg, in the Iranian market the tea is sold for $5.9-$9.5, he said.
The Central Bank of Iran set the US dollar rate at 42,000 rials, but the actual price of 1 US dollar in the black market varies at 137,000-138,000 rials.
