Seventy-six percent of stone coal reserves discovered in Iran account for Tabas county of Iran’s South Khorasan province, chairman of the Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of Iran's South Khorasan province Davood Shahraki said.

Approximately 30,000 square kilometers account for stone coal areas in Tabas county, Trend reports citing Shata news agency.

He added that there are 27 stone and coal mines in Tabas county, 19 of them are coke mines and 8 coal mines. More than 4,000 people work in these mines.

The proven coal reserves in the province reach 840 million tons, Shahraki added.

He said that 1,190,128 tons of stone coal were extracted in Tabas county in the first six months of this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018), which is 16 percent more compared to the same period of last Iranian year.
