Unemployment rate up in Iran last year

The unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percent up to 12 percent in Iran last year (started on March 21, 2018), Trend reports referring to the Iranian Statistical Center’s report.

According to the report, 40.5 percent of Iran's population is economically active.

The number of employees last year was about 23.8 million people which is by 463,000 people more compared to the previous year.

The unemployment rate among 15-29 year-old young people was 25.1 percent last year. There was no change in this age group last year.

According to the Statistics Center, last year 10.8 percent of people worked less than 44 hours per week due to economic reasons (seasonal unemployment, etc.).

Last year employment rate in the services sector was 50.3 percent, industry - 32 percent and agriculture - 17.7 percent.
