More than 67,000 tons of tea leaves bought from tea farmers in northern Iran

Some 67,800 tons of tea leaves were purchased from tea growers in Iran’s northern provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran, said the chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club (YJC).

According to him, 50,000 tons (74 percent) of the purchased tea was first grade tea and 17,000 tons (26 percent) was second grade tea.

Jahansaz added that 1.96 trillion rials (about $40 million) of the 2.46 trillion rials (about $48.5 million) allocated to tea growers for the tea purchased up until now have been paid.

"This year, 15,900 tons of tea were processed at tea plants," he said.

It was noted that each kilogram of first grade and second grade tea were purchased for 36,000 rials (about $0.85) and 22,000 rials (app. $0.52) respectively.
