Iran has hit a record by producing chicken meat by slaughtering 2.5 million chickens in the current Iranian year (since March 21, 2019), so far, Alireza Rafipour, Chairman of the Iran Veterinary Organization, said at the event dedicated to the opening of a poultry slaughterhouse in the Piranshahr county of Iran's West Azerbaijan province, Trend reports citing the website of Iranian Agricultural Jihad Ministry.
Iran ranks 9th in the world by chicken meat production, Rafipour said.
The chairman noted that 280 poultry slaughterhouses operate in Iran.
There are 12 poultry slaughterhouses in West Azerbaijan province, Rafipour added.
The new slaughterhouse in the Piranshahr county is established with 600 billion rials (roughly $14.2 million) of investments and it has the capacity to slaughter 4,000 chickens per hour.
The new slaughterhouse has employed 100 people.
