Iran to establish new port in Golestan Province

Iranian government is expected to approve the construction of a new port in Gomishan coastal area in Golestan Province, said parliament member and representative of Gomishan Abdoljalal Iri, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

"The construction of the new port has been discussed and we would support any action that would lead to province's development," said Iri, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

"The new port in Gomishan is expected to be used for importing wood," he said, adding that the construction of the port requires some $380 million for construction.

"Although it seems difficult that the project would be completed with this sum," he said. "Meanwhile, $71 million worth of credit would be enough for dredging of the province coastal area," he said.

"Bandar Turkmen port was built to harbor ships with 5,000 tons cargo and dredging would make it possible and we can improve sea trade," Iri said.

"In addition to this dredging ports , Golestan province would have the possibility to use tourist ships and develop tourism," he said.

Governor of Golestan Province has recently stated that the Iranian government has approved the construction of new port in Gomishan coastal lagoon.
