Iran connecting more population to its nationwide gas network

TEHRAN, Iran, July 24

Trend:

Iran has connected more than 95 percent of its population to its gas network by developing gas transmission lines, Trend reports via IRNA.

The report said the investments worth $952 million in the past 8 years were absorbed and used on gas transmission projects.

The development of gas transmission was done by using resources generated from reducing liquid fuel consumption and increase of gas production capacity in the country.

About 98.4 percent of Iran's urban population and 85 percent of rural population has been connected to the gas network. That is, a total of 194 cities and more than 20,000 villages have connected to gas network during the past eight years.

Iranian Ministry of Oil's target during these years was to increase gas production to 1 million cubic meters that was achieved last Iranian year (started March 20,2020), which was equal to production of 6 million barrels of oil per day.

Iran's gas transmission capacity was 21.2 billion cubic meters in 2014, which has increased to 28.6 billion cubic meters in 2020.
