BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30. Iran's exports of fish and fish products increased by 7.4 percent in value terms in the 11th month of the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through February 19, 2024) compared to the same period of the previous year, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Iran, Chairman of Iranian Fisheries Organization Hossein Hosseini said, Trend reports.
According to him, Iran exported fish and fish products worth $620 million during the 11 months.
The deputy minister stated that Iran fished more than 420,000 tons of fish in different seas during nine months of last year (from March 21 through December 21, 2023). A total of 23,000 tons were caught in the Caspian Sea in the north of the country and 397,000 tons in the south of the country.
To note, Iran catches and grows on average, more than 1.25
million tons of fish per year.
Out of them, about 700,000 tons are fished, and more than 550,000
tons are farmed.
Presently, 347 cooperatives are engaged in fishing in the north and south of the country. 136,000 people are engaged in fishing in the country. Out of them, 9.500 are engaged in fishing in the Caspian Sea in the north of the country and 126.500 in the south, in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
