BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Approximately 4.3 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Chabahar Port of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, located in southeastern Iran, in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), Director General of Port and Maritime Administration of Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province Ghasem Askari Nasab said, Trend reports.

According to him, about 2.64 million tons of non-oil products were handled and unloaded at Iran's Chabahar port last year, while crude oil and oil products made up the rest (1.63 million tons).

Askari Nasab added that 1.01 million tons of products were exported through Chabahar port last year. This was 2.5 times more than a year earlier (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).

He noted that last year, 15,200 tons of products, 85,700 tons of transshipment, and 5,26,000 tons of coastal vessels were transported through Chabahar port.

Askari Nasab added that 401 vessels were loaded and unloaded with cargo at Chabahar port.

To note, Chabahar port in Sistan and Baluchestan province, located in southeastern Iran, is one of the most convenient ports for the countries of Afghanistan and Central Asia to reach the Indian Ocean. Iran has invested about $1 billion in Chabahar port in recent years. This port has the potential to handle the loading and unloading of 8.5 million cargoes per year and can receive ships with a displacement of 100,000 tons.
