Iran releases input on operational roads and railways

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. Iran commissioned 232 km of railroads and 800 km of roads in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran and Executive Director of Iran's Transportation Infrastructure Construction and Development Company Khairullah Khademi said, Trend reports.

According to Khademi, the commissioning of roads and railroads in the specified volume is considered a record in the country. Thus, the Iranian government considers the commissioning of roads and railways to be one of the top priorities for the country.

Khademi added that steps can be taken on road and railroad projects worth 1 quadrillion rials (about $23.8 billion) a year if funds are made available in the country.

Meanwhile, Iran currently operates 2,793 kilometers of highway, 45170 kilometers of highway, and main roads.

To note, the length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. Around 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight cars, and 2,153 passenger cars are in operation on Iran's railroad lines.
