Iran's steel consumption grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. The crude steel consumption in Iran increased by 5.2 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Consumers Association said, Trend reports.

According to statistics, Iran consumed approximately 24.3 million tons of crude steel last year. However, in the same period last year, crude steel consumption was 23 million tons. Iran consumed 19.6 million tons of metal products. Steel consumption climbed by 1.2 percent from the previous year. Last year, Iran consumed 19.4 million tons of steel products.

Meanhwile, statistics add that 31.9 million tons of sponge iron were consumed in the country last year. Consumption increased by 3.4 percent compared to the previous year. Last year, consumption amounted to about 30.9 million tons.

However, the information shows that the consumption of iron ore pellets in Iran last year amounted to about 46.3 million tons. Consumption of iron ore pellets decreased by 5.3% compared to the previous year. Last year, 48.8 million tons of iron ore pellets were consumed.

To note, the potential of steel production in Iran is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
