Imports of non-oil products to Iran's East Azerbaijan Province increase

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 24. Imports of non-oil products to East Azerbaijan Province, located in northwestern Iran, increased by 29 percent in value and weight in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), customs inspector of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, Sadegh Namdar said, Trend reports.

According to him, 549,000 tons of non-oil products worth $1.75 billion were imported to Iran's East Azerbaijan Province last year.

Namdar added that products from 63 countries were imported to East Azerbaijan Province. 57 percent of the products were imported from Türkiye, 12 percent from the UAE, 11 percent from China, 5 percent from Germany, and 2 percent from South Korea.

The official noted that the imported products were mainly trucks, gold bars, various types of tobacco, frozen beef, and cocoa powder.

He stated that the province's customs revenue totaled 70.1 trillion rials (about $1.7 billion) last year. That was 33 percent more than the year before.

Additionally, it should be noted that according to the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, the country's imports last year amounted to 39 million tons worth approximately $66.3 billion. The import of products increased by 9.77 percent in value and 4.39 percent in weight compared to the previous year.

To note, Iran mainly focuses on importing the products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on importing the products manufactured in the country.
