BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3. Imports of non-oil products into East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) grew by 20 percent in value and 30 percent in weight in the current Iranian year's first two months (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same period in the last year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023), the province's customs inspector, Sadegh Namdar, told reporters in Tabriz today, Trend reports.
According to him, over the reporting period, 87,000 tons of products worth nearly $255 million were imported to East Azerbaijan Province.
Namdar added that trucks worth $43 million, beef (beef) worth $25 million, tobacco products worth $24 million, frozen red meat worth $16 million, and bananas worth $7 million were imported into the province in the first two months.
The customs official pointed out that in the past two months, East Azerbaijan Province mainly imported products from Türkiye, China, the UAE, Germany, and Brazil.
Product imports from these countries accounted for 90.3 percent of the province's imports in terms of value and 93.4 percent in terms of weight.
To note, statistics from Iran's Customs Administration (IRICA) show that the country imported 5.84 million tons of products worth about $9.08 billion.
Imports of non-oil products to Iran increased by 9.19 percent in terms of value and 13.3 percent in terms of weight compared to the same period last year.
