Iranian FM to meet with Catherine Ashton

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi will meet with EU High Representative for the Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, the Iranian news agency Mehr reported.

The meeting will be held in the framework of the 16th meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Council. The parties will discuss the situation in the region and Iran's nuclear program.

On Feb. 27, Salehi arrived in Geneva, where he will speak at an international conference on disarmament, as well as at the 16th meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Council.

Following a 14-month break, the talks on Iran's nuclear program between The Six (five UNSC permanent members - the United States, China, Russia, France, Great Britain - and Germany) and Iran took place in 2010 in Geneva in December. The next round of discussions took place in Istanbul on Jan. 21-22, 2011. Catherine Ashton chaired the meeting.

After the Istanbul talks, Ashton stated that she is disappointed with the results of discussions held over Iran's nuclear program.
