The Chinese ambassador to the UN Li Baodong has welcomed the resumption of talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, Press TV reported with reference to IRNA.
"We have always believed in and supported the strategy of interaction and negotiation with Iran," Li Baodong told.
He highlighted the significance of dialogue with the Islamic Republic and said the resumption of negotiations was the best solution to settle any possible issue with Tehran.
"We are willing for talks with Iran and I think we can come to a suitable solution," he added.
The Chinese envoy recommended that other members of the P5+1 - Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany - sit down with Tehran for talks, despite possible differences of opinion.
Earlier on Friday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also said that Moscow welcomes the resumption of Iran-P5+1 talks.
On Thursday, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who represents the six major powers, hinted that the P5+1 would not hold additional negotiations with Tehran.
Referring to a recent letter by the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, she said, "On its own, Dr. Jalili's letter does not contain anything new and does not seem to justify a further meeting."
On May 7, Jalili in his letter to Ashton welcomed talks with the P5+1 based on common grounds and in a pressure-free atmosphere.
Jalili described "respect for nations' rights and avoidance of pressure" as two very basic principles for cooperation.
Iran and the P5+ held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in the Turkish city of Istanbul last January.
