Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the ongoing crisis in Yemen is not just a regional issue.

Rouhani made the remarks in a joint press conference with his visiting Iraqi counterpart Fuad Masum in Tehran on May 13, the official website of the Iranian president reported.

The Yemen issue is now beyond a political and regional issue, but a humanitarian issue for the entire world, Rouhani said, adding that theYemeni people are in need of medicine and medical teams as well as food.

The Iranian president said that alongside the Yemen crisis, he has negotiated main regional issues including security issue in Syria with his Iraqi counterpart.

"Today we are witnessing a very serious situation in Yemen, Rouhani said, calling for "immediate real ceasefire" in Yemen.

An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on the Houthi militia forces in Yemen March 25, in a move to support President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who was forced to flee to Riyadh.

A five-day humanitarian ceasefire has begun in Yemen on May 12. It wasn't immediately clear whether both sides were abiding by the ceasefire, which is announced to allow aids to reach residents in need of food, water and medical assistance.
