The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has pledged to accelerate the country’s missile development program, a move in response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to introduce new sanctions on the elite force.

The IRGC, through a statement on Thursday, said that the country managed to develop its missile program under severe sanctions over the recent years, therefore the elite force will continue to accelerate and improve its “missile power”.

The statement also touched upon Iran’s role in the region and assured that Iran will extend its influence in the region.

During a combative speech on Oct.13, US President Donald Trump condemned Iran as a "fanatical regime" and authorized the US Treasury to sanction the revolutionary guards as “supporters of terrorism”.

Trump also refused to continue signing off on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA aka nuclear deal).

“Iran is under the control of a fanatical regime that seized power in 1979 and forced proud people to submit to its extremist rule. This radical regime has raided the wealth of one of the world’s oldest and most vibrant nations, and spread death, destruction, and chaos all around the globe,” Trump said.
