Iran’s special police forces have dismantled an armed terrorist group in the south eastern city of Saravan, near the Pakistan border.

One suicide terrorist was killed during the armed clash with the police, said police commander of Sistan and Baluchestan province, Brigadier General Mohammad Ghanbari, IRNA news agency reported May 30.

The security forces seized significant amounts of light and heavy weapons, one suicide vest and several explosive traps as well as significant quantities of ammunition, he added.

Sistan and Balouchestan province, bordering with Pakistan, has been the scene of frequent clashes between extreme militants and the Islamic Republic’s forces in recent years.

Iran’s security forces also frequently clash with drug traffickers in the area, which is located on a major drug smuggling route between Afghanistan and Europe, as well as the Persian Gulf states.
