The Iranian army's ground forces will practice anti-terror tactics during the ongoing "Prophet Mohammad 3" war game.

General Amir Rezaian said his forces would consider possible clashes with terrorist groups, such as the Islamic State militant group, during the military exercises, Tasnim news agency reported Nov. 17.

Infantry, armored and artillery units, drones, helicopters, and fighters are involved in the ongoing "Prophet Mohammad 3" war game in north eastern Iran.

The drill includes heliborne and anti-heliborne operations as well as modern war tactics and rescue operations. The two-day drill is to be held with the aim of improving the preparation of the ground force units and their deterrence capacity.

Earlier, Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, commander of the Iranian Army's ground forces, claimed that Iran had held three drills and five technical drills last year. The official said at the time that Iran was facing new threats, mentioning proxy wars and terrorist groups.

Tehran regularly announces its military advances, which cannot be independently verified. Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great strides in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines, and fighter planes.
