 а) Oil and gas production

Some 33.5 million tons of oil and condensate was produced in Azerbaijan in January-August. This index is by 6.3 percent more than index of oil and condensate production in January-August 2008, the Azerbaijani state statistics committee said.

Major volume of oil and gas condensate production fell on the block of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli offshore fields and the gas condensate Shah Deniz field - 27.8 million tons of oil and condensate, which is by 8 percent more than the same period of 2008.

Gas production was almost 15.7 billion cubic meters in Azerbaijan in January-August that an increase of 0.6 percent than in 2008. About 6.9 billion cubic meters of gas fell on Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (associated gas) and Shah Deniz with a 23-percent increase from the same period of 2008.

Roughly 12.2 billion kilowatt-hour of energy was produced in Azerbaijan in January-August 2009 that 10.4 percent lower than in the same period of 2008.

b) Refinery

In January to August 2008, the total volume of oil refining made up 4.9mln tons in the Azerbaijani Oil Refining plants as compared to more than 5mln tons in January to August 2007, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), reports.

More than 3.1mln tons of refined oil is done only by Baku Oil Refining Plant (BORP) named after Heydar Aliyev, and more than 1.7mln tons on - Azneftag ORP. The volume of oil refining decreased by 43,400 tons in BORP, by 143,400 tons in Azneftag.
