The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 2.83 billion manat in Azerbaijan in January-June 2017, which is by 2.2 percent more than in January-June 2016.
According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report, the crop production increased by 1.7 percent, while livestock production – 2.6 percent in the reporting period.
Plant growing
The process of sowing spring crops completed in the country by July.
As of June 24, 2017, some 469,000 hectares were sown (26.1 percent increase for the year).
According to the report, in particular, 72,400 hectares of cereals and leguminous plants (including 38,800 hectares of fodder corn), 58,800 hectares of potatoes, 68,400 hectares of vegetables, 23,400 hectares of melons and gourds, 136,400 hectares of cotton, 14,100 hectares of sugar beet, 15,000 hectares of feeding sunflower, 3,300 hectares of tobacco, 66,500 hectares of permanent plants, 2,300 hectares of annual plants and around 8,400 hectares of other spring plants have been sown since the beginning of the season.

As of July 1, over 284,700 tons of potatoes were harvested (a 8.9 percent decrease for year), 561,000 tons of vegetables (a 41.8 percent increase), 44,300 melons and gourds (a 2.8 percent increase), 96,400 tons of fruit and berries (a 1.1 percent increase), 119 tons of tobacco (a 8.2 percent increase) and 326.3 tons of green tea leaves (a 35.7 percent decrease).
As of July 1, almost 1.4 million tons of cereals and leguminous crops were harvested. Almost 2.1 million tons were harvested in the same period of last year.
Cattle breeding
So, 237,800 tons of meat in live weight, 1,003.5 tons of milk, 879.4 million pieces of eggs and 14,700 tons of wool were produced in the country in January-June 2017.
Meat production increased by 2.9 percent, milk production by 0.8 percent, egg production - by 6.7 percent, while wool production decreased by 3.6 percent in January-June 2017 compared to January-June 2016.
